I suppose the added chore of raising it is the weight of the battens and sockets, the new sail cloth, plus some added friction if the wind is holding the main. But it takes more muscle at the mast than the old one. I'm in the market for a two speed winch, preferably a ST, to put replace the reel halyard winch.
And while it comes down like a felled tree, it can also get hung up if it's at all twisted by wind. But luffing dead into the wind, it drops-too fast in fact. It's tougher to feather it down with the reel winch(another reason now to go to rope/new winch).
Tough decisions to make those investments you're considering. But definitely get the new (I love this new full batten) mainsail. After a couple seasons sailing without a mainsail, you'll think you bought a new racing boat.
