The Dec 2014 issue tests various anchors in soft mud. OK perhaps the test wasn't as exhaustive as something PS might run... but none the less... it gives one pause. Or at any rate, it certainly gave me pause... my go to anchor didn't fare that well. I have a claw on the bow and the test that Sail did, showed a 44 lb claw breaking out of mud at only a 400 lb load.
The winner by a long shot was a Fortress anchor FX 37 with flukes set at 45 degrees... it held to some 1862, lbs of pull force. Danforth HT (35LB) did next best at some 995 lbs of pulling force.
Anyway... Sail runs tests like this, plus some nice DIY stuff and their "sketchbook" column... and of course boat reviews. I found it all to be quite readable.
Of course given my druthers... I'd really like to see GOB published once a month. GRIN
