Firstly, I've only made the sail with prevailing souterlies. The fog, the more typical sail. For those that don't know the area, here's a google earth shot. The blue arrow would have been wind direction(20-25 knots), the thin red arrows where I would guess Peter sailed.
The clear Northwest breeze would have made the sea and coastline absolutely sparkle! Petit Manann would have been magnificent. His speed must have felt surreal in the flat water along the coast. The air would have been brisk but maybe no more so than a southerly at that time of year, and it was a dry sail(our fridgid water 'air conditions' you on the water, to a fault in the spring).
And then if Peter spent the night inside Roque Island, I bet he would have been very well protected and enjoyed a starry sky overhead in this beautiful anchorage, all by himself. I bet he had a toast anyway.
