I had a nice Canadian sailor explaining how, if I was in there alone, that one could tie-off to the shore.
I've try not to take any anchorage for "granite" -- with my 7'-5"-ish draft and my 6'-7" deep rudder back behind the wheel. There isn't very good BoatUS tow service out there ;^)))))
Having said that, the Thoroughfare looks interesting. The cut that you suggested just west of Great Spruce looked very doable -- assuming that the winds are not out of the southeast.
Al's description of anchoring to the north, while not too protected, it certainly is an easier, in- and out-.
Maine is such a rich place to sail when the weather is cooperative!
