I'd say it all depends on the winter weather....

() Boats have masts on all year around in most places but sitting in the water versus on jack stands is the issue. Water gives, jack stands don't although they can collapse given enough windage...
As for the salt water.. well.....thousands and thousands of sailors can't be wrong.
