I read on another board where I asked the same OP question that the WORST thing you can do is trail a boat Stress levels

Think about it.
If leaving the mast up stresses and damages the boat a pot hole destroys it! 
I'm being the devils advocate here but it's an open ended discussion IMHO

- In the land of winter storms cradles are the norm... jack stands are not usually accepted... at least not at our club.

- I store mast-up but believe your club is right (is better down)
