BTW my mast is down every winter......

Survey: Those of you with medium to large sailboats (7,000 lbs +) who takes their mast down every year at haulout?
I'd say it all depends on the winter weather....
all a bunch of "T"BS
Oops.....
No it wasn't
I can only quote the headline...
LOL! ... Well, if a local news reporter says so, who are we to question?
LOL!!!
... well I checked and this year chains are required with stands there
Hmmm . . . so what's the windage on the mast vs the windage on the shrinkwrap?
J McG!!! So what is the real story? leverages and percentages and such? Sounds like a mag thingy.
Probably have to rent a wind tunnel . . .
LOL! Wind isn't limited to the publishing Biz....
Hmmm. Dirt yard = frost heaves moving the stands
In Mexico we get 7 jack stands is 5 Normal????
7 is normal here
In the land of winter storms cradles are the norm... jack stands are not usually accepted... at least not at our club.
I don't think so, I see .......
I read on another board where I asked the same OP question that the WORST thing you can do is trail a boat Stress levels
Smaller than 7000 lbs but I take it down
I think your boatyard is right.
I do.
some considerations
Mine...
Funny you mention wind blowing a boat over because it's mast is up.
Interesting...
My first thought. An insurance issue, not a stress issue.
Never let the facts get in the way of a law suit or an insurance premium eh?.
Living aboard in storms of up to 100 mph....
I take the mast out very infrequently ...
I store mast-up but believe your club is right (is better down)
We always take the masts down...
50 to 60?
A five day nor=easter is different from a hurricane...
Agree 100% -- plus you have frost heaves in the northeast
what stress?
The stress thing intrigues me.... since I've seen a lot of damage from raising and dropping the mast .....
Blye. Tell them suckers to leave your mast up!!
Left the mast up for years.... no problems. It's a Chat Board chat.... I have been told by "experts" that
Now if you're REALLY concerned about stress
I saw an Irwin that had a indents from the jackstands
I always take the mast down
Me too, my riggers are pretty careful.

This was a busy weekend at our club for mast unstepping. Several boats damaged already!
We have always taken the mast down
