I always take the mast down 
In Response To: Survey: Those of you with medium to large sailboats (7,000 lbs +) who takes their mast down every year at haulout? ()
() But then I'm usually having the boat trucked somewhere for the winter. Even if I was just leaving it in a boatyard for the winter, I would still have the mast taken down. edit: I make sure to work with riggers who I trust to take good care of the rig.
