I think your boatyard is right.

If being better for your boat, is the question. The fact the rig is out means you can cover the boat successfully with tarps or shrink wrap. Meaning you can keep water off the boat that will find nooks and crannies to freeze and thaw.

And if you cover or put the rig indoors, that too will be better off simply being out of the weather for several months a year.

I don't have to remove my rig but I do. It's wood of course, but I would do it regardless because I've had little luck covering a boat with it in.

Wind alone could be a good reason in the yards case if they're concerned. It might be called for just to reduce noise in some areas.

But should you be forced to remove the rig or even cover your boat? I don't know.
