Here's a late breaker, just installed a couple weeks ago. This is the Rogue Wave model by Wave Wifi which uses the Ubiquiti Bullet 2HP hardware. The value added by Wave Wifi is that it comes as a complete package and has gotten good reviews on Panbo.
The pictured mounting location is subject to change. It is possible that the main sheet or the preventer could in a rare instance hook the antenna. The mount is not super high quality, so I may purchase one that would easily let me drop down the antenna. The location was just too easy for me due to the handrail right next to a gap in the dodger canvas and also access to a conduit system leading to the nav station.
Overall, the system works very well feeding directly into my Mac laptop. Startup sequencing seems to be a bit glitchy. I've found that the antenna system wants to be completely started up before the laptop gets involved (I think!). It comes with 12v and 110v power for the power over ethernet injector. I'm using the 12 volt supply for efficiency. We're in Morro Bay now and have access to the Morro Bay Yacht Club Wifi, though throughput on another system is better.
I positioned the antenna so I can see the status lights easily from the companionway.
The Mac laptop has the ability to share its internet connection over Airport (if the internet connection is coming in via Ethernet). That scheme serves phones and other computers just fine with no obvious speed problems. I have a small Apple router, but see no reason to add the power draw.
There are less expensive solutions using the Bullet 2HP that a knowledgeable and energetic person should find very satisfactory. I admit to being a bit lazy!
