Hi Greg,
...not necessarily speaking of ISOBEL now, buy so many of them just seem to be such brazen displays of the ever-increasing disparity between today's Uber-Rich, and the rest of us... Given the extremely difficult circumstances most people are facing these days, the obsession with bigger, faster, lighter and on and on seems entirely out of proportion, and quite unseemly in many cases... Actually, a boat like ISOBEL is quite modest, elegant, and spartan, relative to the standards being set by most large yacht builds today...
A couple of weeks ago, I saw the assemblage of yachts gathering for the Antigua Yacht Charter Show in Falmouth and English Harbors... After walking those docks for an hour, I felt as if I had just devoured an entire wedding cake in one sitting...
The disparity between the people who inhabit those islands, and the Masters of the Universe who come to visit, couldn't have been more starkly defined... The yacht crews were hard at work prepping and detailing their boats, but there was one job that was clearly "beneath" virtually all of them, and delegated to the locals...
Aboard Jim Clark's HANUMAN, Trickle-Down Economics, most appropriately displayed in Black & White...
best regards,
Jon
