Will we see more of these in the near future, Shantyboats?
The "houseboat" is nothing new
Here are some Seattle houseboats
Another option is to simply buy an old Chris Craft or similar cheap powerboat..
Good point. The Shanty boat is more legal than the Chris craft.
and where do the kids go to school
I think climate in this area will prevent that from being a problem.
kids
If that's the way you look at it, it's better you don't have any
I was just stating a financial fact
Well, so's boating.
In the not so distant past a large number of children
Having kids can help -- not just in agricultural families. Growing old sucks...
Well stated.
Parents routinely outlived kids not all that long ago.
well, actually, in agricultural regions
This sort of boat will show up sooner rather than later in moorages if....
The composting toilet is changing thinking on living.
the current type of marine composting head
That's just a great looking barge!!
Many mooring fields have pump out boats that
the problem is that many landowners
I don't think that's the problem, and that's the wrong attitude I believe.
Problem
What did the marine patrol tell you Jim?
A mix
view disturbed... LOL
then why go to FLA?
Never ran inti him Jerry
be thankful for that
Trailer Park?
More like a barge house to me.
Agreed. These are not housing but seasonal getaways.
It's a very nice looking craft and having lived aboard a 22' sailboat, looks QUITE roomy.
I really like the look of his shantyboat...
I do to. I doubt it was designed without a lot of thought.
yes and no
"Wood, after all, is only the choice of people who are dirt poor, and/or who don't know better and/or who are nostalgic,
Upcoming weekend I'm staying on a houseboat in Lake Union, Seattle....
The lakes and rivers in the south are LITTERED with houseboats..
Agree. The house mentality takes from the vessel part for where we'll be next weekend.
Well now...there are two different types of houseboats...
Sure but the upcoming visit is on a "boat", not a float. Weekly pump out I think is fifty bucks IIRC.
Here's an idea that's pushing the limits.
Or you could buy this for under $20K and not blight the harbor
That's a good candidate for a liveaboard.
Robinhood Marine in Maine has two Island 40's for rent now.
How about trailer-boats?
I saw those on your blog Dave. I doubt they're going anywhere.
My Jaunty project is a a 16' shanty boat cross with a more seaworthy hull.
Much more seaworthy I would think.
That six foot chop in the lower Columbia sorts out the pretenders.
Write an article
Great website you have.
This one is fascinating.
Thanks and more on shantyboats
Agree hunnerd percent! Ramshackle will hurt, nice will provide a measure of security if not approval.
Along those lines, was just admiring the Tad Roberts boat on your page...
I think you're on the right track. " A small vessel propelled on water by oars, sails, or an engine."
Just ran across this in the local'ish c'slist.
Oh,...some of those are frightening.
I've kinda been doing construction still so no 'actual' use, yet.
Not Shantyboats, but FLIP
Not around here Tom
Where exactly are you Craig?
If you're still on Lake Erie, the reason that there aren't houseboats is because you're not in sheltered waters
Presque Isle Bay, off of Lake Erie
That's a 1 mile or so accross by 4 mile or so long which opens in Lake Erie
