morro bay 
In Response To: If you don't count the little marinas in SF proper then ()
() Morro Bay is my favorite anchorage along the California coast. It's picturesque and the town is quaint. The people are friendly and the anchorage is very well protected. But you'll probably run aground a little (just mud). The locals say "You haven't sailed Morro Bay until you've run aground."
