That's me on the left back when I still had dark hair. The fellow on the right and I left Santiago de Cuba a few weeks before for Puerto Platta in the DR. We got separated in the Windward Passage between Cuba and Haiti and he arrived a few hours ahead of me. I had the harbor chart and he was going to go in with me but arrived at night and decided to try it with the help of a guy in already at anchor on the radio. This was back prior to GPS but the rules still apply IMHO. The picture is of the two of us in Puerto Rico hauled out putting the rudder back on and repairing the six feet of damage to the side of his boat. It took us two week in Puerto Platta to get him off the reef and the boat patched up enough to make the trip down to the yard in Puerto Rico. Don't go into unfamiliar harbors at night unless you don't give a shit about your boat or your crew. That's just MHO.
