I agree with the nostalgia and art form of paper nautical charts.

I did always enjoy running into my old speed and bearing lines years after I had struck them. The memories would flood back. Some of us would buy an area chart just to mark up on a memorable cruise or vacation to retire simply for personal history of that cruise.

Unfortunately I stopped doing that many years ago so they even stopped storing bits of history for me.

It's been a tough decade for books, magazines, newspapers, and now paper charts. They all survive today, in somewhat lesser forms, which is great especially in charts for those that still navigate with them. That's still a safe way to sail and very rewarding(as you know).
