I just saw that in your post. "I checked the bent stanchions, they must have installed them on the deck and built the boat around them. No way to get to the backing plates."

I understand you have an Island Packet. Not being able to rebed the stanchions is a ????????. Island Packets are good boats,,, how is getting to the other deck and rigging hardware on an Island Packet. You mentioned the Hunter had good access to stuff but crappy joinery.
