I've used a good bit of Ipe. Made handrails, seat bases, winch bases etc. Never had any problem gluing, or with splintering other than while working occasionally

ALL the docks in my marina are decked with it. the oldest going on 5-6 years now, exposed to the Texas sun. Only problem I've seen is during summer, you BEST not jump onto it bare footed, cause it gets HOT when left bare.

Do wear a dust mask when sawing- the dust is very fine
