Maybe splinter isn't the right word. But there were these micro hairs (wood) that would lodge themselves in bare feet. If the wood is well sealed or kept varnished all the time then I don't believe there would be an issue. Maybe the docks at the Bluff house were not prepared properly. I wouldn't doubt it but that is the experience we had.
