Many of the boats at our club, including the new 54 footer, are really no more than summer cottages. The owners tend to be more drinkers than boaters. If the boats move it is to go over to the pumpout. At the end of the season, the cottage is hauled and winterized, no property taxes, no winter maintenance. Of course we can't have live aboards year round, none of the clubs or marinas support such things because of the ice. We shut down everything the first week of November through the first week of April. Even trash pickup goes to on-call. I do know a couple of people that tried to live aboard on the hard during the winter at the club, only one actually made it.
I'm really curious what happened last night at our bridge & board meeting, sure would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that one.
