I wondered how your club was growing it's boat population.

I was comparing our local clubs that have an opposite problem - a declining number of boat owners being replaced by social members.

There's the difference: You have prime dock space where as our local clubs have no dock space outside of loading - unloading, dockage.

I could easily see now how your new members could use their dock as a summer address. Nice spot! And another trend to the lower price of larger used boats. Even those in good condition.

Our clubs draw for non sailors are waterfrontage, lunch, friday night pot lucks, parties on the water. Nothing wrong with that but that has become much of the draw to non boaters.

Living aboard on a mooring in our harbors (a bit exposed) isn't an attractive option, although I know a few from away, that do just that. Either way, our option for living aboard is the same- seasonal only.
