Oh, yeah, it took them only two hours to decide to call for a tow

Article says lost rudder at 4 am, called for tow at 6 am. Seven people on board a 53 foot racing boat. I don't know, but I'd have thought since they weren't in bad conditions, says the article, and only 70 miles out and boat wasn't sinking, that they'd have tried to find a way to sail the boat back? Instead of leaving it to float.

Anyone know how'd you steer a boat like that, probably back upwind (since they were heading downwind across the Atlantic)? I'm sure it could be done if you knew what you're doing.

Don't get me wrong here I'm not really faulting the crew, but faulting the general lack of preparedness that often characterizes people setting off. A 53' race boat and the skipper doesn't know how to jury rig steering, our use the sails to steer?
