Well, to start with they might be alarmed at the increase in shipping

I seem to recall in "Around the World in Wanderer III" their description of lots of ships that appeared 'out of nowhere' in big seas in the dark while going around South Africa...I somehow doubt that, even that they may have had someone almost always on deck, they wouldn't have availed themselves of the opportunity to have good, power-efficient radar, had it existed at the time...but that's just a guess. (Don't know if they had it on their penultimate boat, the 49 foot Wanderer IV.) That being said, they did have impressive seamanship skills.
