I have never done this before... and obviously I would endeavor to do the job as well as possible... But what pitfalls might I encounter that I may not have the experience to judge... What don't I know... that's the real question.
When I have done mechanical work in the past. (and I am pretty handy actually) it usually wasn't something that would end up in total failure should I make a small error. Sinking a boat is in that area of "total failure." One thing I used to do on a very regular basis was adjust the valves on my old VW. But about every third time or so I would take it in and have a mechanic adjust them... figured that way I am not always making the same errors.
I do my brakes about every other time... same reasoning.
Personally I do trust myself... as I would likely over engineer the issue if there were any problems.
