A snug anchorage is just one reason to put up with a centerboard. In this photo, the harbor is formed by Manana and Monhegan with the little near rock bridge between the two. You can also make out the ferry dock between the rock and Monhegan.
Just above is the rock island Nigh Duck (sp?) Between that and Monghegan are a few moorings, a couple of which hold one of two of the daily ferries that run between Boothbay and Port Clyde. At least one will spent the day waiting for the return. It's a long trip so more efficient to just hang there.
There are a couple more moorings as well. one of which I used.
I've spent a good night on a mooring there as well so there are times it will work out. In the past, we have only spent a few hours and then headed off for the night. Simply, there are no snug anchorage options on Monhegan.
I love that photo of your two boats rafted in Correa Harbor.
