I spliced a standard chain hook on one end of my snubber -- spliced one of these snap hooks to the other. I made the snubber a little longer than it needs to be so it can be adjusted on the cleat. The hook opens at least 1" wide and will not accidentally release. SWL is about 3900 lbs, which is sufficient for storm conditions especially when you consider there's a safety factor in that rating. Search for "Wichard snap hook". I also have used these hooks on my full-time mooring bridle for the last 8 or 9 years. Never any failure or distortion. The eye is big enough to splice 5/8" 3-strand with a back-splice like you would use to splice rope-chain.
