Size matters, ???

From what I've read, anchor tests show that the Manson or Rocna are the best available at the present time. Most boats I've cruised on that had them were smaller than our 88 lb Delta,, so I'm wondering about weight and size as a factor. A bit like a fighter,, you cant put a 170 pound man against a 220 pounder in the same ring and compare them based on how good they are. The bigger guy will probably win.

I'm sure the Delta you had was a smaller one given your boat and wonder if the sheer size and weight of the 88 lb Delta makes a difference in penetrating matted grass. Our anchor is larger than most Manson's or Rocna's on other boats in the anchorage and we have consistently outperformed them in grass. We were in Providencia Colombia (thick matted grass) and had a boat with a Manson drag past us and had to re-anchor 3 times. Could have been we were just lucky at that time, but then again?? I've never owned a Manson or Roncna so I don't have that much personal experience with them,, only what I know from all my diving on my anchor and other configurations in the same area. I've never had an occasion where the Delta wouldn't set except (of course) on thin sand over coral. In that case nothing sets.

So,,, I'm wondering if that 88 lbs and all that weight in the tip is just too much for the grass and it digs in making it appear to outperform smaller but better anchors,, and,, if it was smaller and lighter the penetration would be a different story.

Do you consider a CQR a spade? CQR's are terrible anchors compared to the new designs.
