where you often see several inches of sand over a hard bottom. A CQR does not do well in this type of bottom, but the Rocna scrapes up some sand on top of itself and holds. My 35 lb Rocna was good all over the Bahamas this past winter for our 32' cutter. I used to use a 35 lb CQR all over New England and slept well with a well-buried anchor but it doesn't work as well in the Bahamas. I think a Danforth will scrape and hold in the Bahamas and dig deep elsewhere, but I only use it as a second anchor as I am leery of it not staying set or not resetting in a significant wind shift.
I try to anchor so that if I awake in the middle of the night to a significant increase in wind or change in direction, I can confidently smile a little, roll over and go back to sleep.
