Luckily most of our coastal sailing in our area, Maine and southern NE, means we can take advantage of mostly secure anchorages. But we also make determining our anchorages exposure a big part of planning our routes.

When we do end up in an open roadstead in dicey conditions, I don't get too far from the boat.

If I were a cruiser, I'd carry more and heavier ground tackle.
