Having sailed and anchored for over forty years, I have three anchors for....

..my little shanty boat, Jaunty. Old habits die hard. I have a 15 lb..heavy for my boat..Supreme, a lightweight Danforth style, a Danforth 13S, and am in the market for my fourth, a break down Columbia River anchor of the type shown. It has a sliding square ring that locks open the flukes. This kind of anchor is very popular on the Columbia and Willamette rivers for fishermen. It's a taste of a variation on the Fisherman anchor it seems to me. It'll break down and stow in my limited locker space.

They are adequate for fishing in sand bottoms, good in rock and gravel bottoms of which those rivers have. While they're used with an anchoring " easy retrieve system" including chain, line rode, and sliding float ball, I will only use the anchor having no need of the system.

Since I'm starting out with 65' of 1/4" BBB I figure those will be most adequate for anywhere I want to anchor this 16' X 8' boat with a bit of windage. I'll be anchoring in shallow waters to 20' mostly so will have all chain rode and don't want to drag anywhere. I figure I'll be well protected.

The chain is a left over from about 1979 which is why I'm gonna use it on this boat.
