Most of the world uses GSM technolgy for cellphones, iPads etc.
Verizon, Bell Canada, soem mickey mous Caribbean operators and some other dinosaurs have their own technolgy.

Buy a GSM iPad form an apple store and buy a local SIM card in any country. I am writing this at an anchorage in Norway using a PC. My son is on our iPad, bothusing a Telenor (local cel company) modem.

I can get a Telenor SIM for my Canadian iPad not problem.

However, teh Huwaei data modem is better, since it allows up to 4 compters and/or iPads t acces it with one SIM card.
We buy a new SIM in each country. Cost ranges from 10 cents to $10 (Norway)

We have unlimited data in Norway for $2/day.

to rrepeat. avoid any cellphone or iPad that is not GSM like the plague if you want to leave North America. Verizon is a dinosaur.
