That one is a classic. Good for you to admit it.

I bet it will conjure up a few similar, that will not be admitted.

What would you expect to pay for electronics & autopilot install?
Is the labor more than the parts?
Well speed and depth shouldn't be all that much...
Hourly rates vary but I would guess about 15 hours to install the instuments, and
I'll take a guess $1,500.00 labor only.
Having just installed all new electronics myself...
$5,000
Close, but still low!
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great way to turn this into an opportunity.
Yeah, I'm not surprised.
Me either. I cut my estimate way down.
I stopped by a friend's boat shop in Freeport around lunchtime one day
Paul, he shoulda called me....
30 years, good answer.
For five grand...
I haven't looked at the answer yet; I'll say $6000.
It was between $5 & 6k...
Speaking from experience......
I agree, which is why I helped a pro and didn't attempt it all myself.
I have so little confidence in my mechnical abilities
Lol! Did you take a video? Some do their own boat work, some don't,...

I haven't the courage to talk about my (many) "experiences" ;^) This little video sort says it all
I have little or no faith in professionals
It's not so much that I don't trust them
Would that include your liferaft?
I am a professional tradesman
Well, that depends. I have seen "pro" jobs completely botched...
"Pros" can make just as many mistakes as amateurs
It seems to me that installing marine electronics has become very simple..
I moved
I don't find most boat work that challenging
I agree...
I understand your point Nat. Care to elaborate on what mistakes get made?
Here is a simple mistake we see all the time..
Looks like a good read. Thx.
Not all systems are created equally.
You may be a bit out of date
Not exactly so. B&G & Raymarine for example
Your next to the last sentence says it all...
Yes, in my dyselxic typing..of course I meant the "opposite" :^))
I guess it depends on your electronics background...
Like I said, you may be a bit out of date
Furuno is the "current" model.
I understand your point
I'm not offended, I'm quite capable of being wrong.
