In 20 years I have only paid twice. Once to blast the bottom and once to take out a fuel injector pump for repair. The former was a price issue (I could make more money working those extra hours than what they charged) and the latter was after I read the service manual and got scared off. After watching the mechanic fuck it up I could do it blindfold. Does not this decision really point to self reliance and a thirst for knowledge?
If the job cost more than the tools required I would vote for DIY. I realize that not everyone has the time or the same opinion but when something goes wrong I want to be familiar with the problem. Just spent 4 hours rebuilding the head. Put it together and forgot a seal. Do it again but isn't that the poor man's definition of knowledge?
