Instead of peeling off in Brunswick or Topsham? Isn't that 95? At any rate, we often took that by mistake in the early years and found out it wasn't that much farther. You get off outside Augusta and come down 17. It's longer in miles but because it's interstate to until 17, speed makes up some of the difference. Then if traffic is a problem on rt 1, it can save any time you loose in say Wiscasset.
This route brings you pretty close to Belfast but I'm just estimating that it wouldn't take much more time to drive to either the Camden area or Belfast area from down south. What do you think?
