You can see the firebox is inclosed on 3 sides by a SS box that protects the wood. We get a lot of air flow up around the sides. I have seen some Nor'Seas that have added more metal shielding, but don't think it's required with this stove. We saw one Nor'Sea that the owner used a small pot belly stove type heater and lined the space around it with Italian tile! WOW did that look good.
