I use 6 for planning - that takes the pressure off

It's always better for crew morale (including the Admiral) to be able say while underway that our revised ETA is ahead of schedule. 
Considering that our cruising speed under power is about 8 knots, we can sail for a while at 4-5 and make up time later if desired. Extended motoring isn't our thing. If the wind is favorable of course it's not an issue.
