That's another thing about sailing that's hard to describe, the noise.

Usually it's a mixture of many sources, sometimes a cacophony of rattles and roars and bangs. But in flat water I sometimes enjoy the greatest noise of a boat sailing. That happened this past sail when we sailed through a narrow area between islands where the wind was good but the water dead flat.

That's when I heard a familiar hissing sound and remarked to my wife, "Do you hear that?" She nodded, but I don't know if she hears the same thing. I've noticed that hiss many times and on several boats. The J105 sound could be something different.

There are good sounds when sailboats are moving well through the water, at all different speeds.
