Those are nice. I've seen some very well crafted hand rails

on some of the custom wooden boats here. A bit more work than I'm tooled for or want to take on. Plus I want to use the standard method of cutting a pair out of each blank(6" sandwiched stock, hole saw, rip down the center and band saw out the waste, round, sand).

I just think I'll try a closer spacing of the piers(both for asthetics and extra fasteners) and bevel each rail from a wider base to a 1" round top(again for looks as well as more bearing to resist side forces).

I'll think about setting a bolt but I'm not sure how that will go. Also, I've been using wood screws and trim washers on anything that comes through below. It looks clean, I paint them as the ceiling, and they don't damage your head with so little protrusion.

I wonder if there is a method to thread wood for a wood screw, maybe in conjunction with epoxy to strengthen the fibers? I just am finding easy removal makes my maintenance so much easier and the cabin stays dry.
