I use the Garmin touch screen at the helm. I have a second system with the older Raymarine below using C-Map and a third system with Nobeltec using C-Map. Each of the three systems are independent and offer lots of backup. I like the Garmin at the helm due to the integration with all the other data feeds on the boat. I wouldn't want to be using a laptop at that location and the Garmin is talking to the autopilot. It is getting data from radar, AIS, wind, water speed, temp, depth, etc. I find the CP to be more of a tactical device that talks to all the other feeds and is better for me at the helm. For planning purposes I like the Nobeltec with the laptop. That's the beauty with today's technology...we can usually find the combination that works best for EACH of us.
