We have both AIS and radar but they are both in the navigation station connected to the C-Series.
I do admit,,, it's a pain in the ass to refer to chartplotter, ais and radar by going below but I feel strongly about not having that equipment at the helm. When I installed the equipment I added enough cable to put it at the helm but that cableing sits rolled up under the nav table.
I'm serious,,,, my chartplotter, radar and AIS went south with a lightening side strike while in the San Blas Islands and I became really uncomfortable navigating until I got it running again. I decided I needed to rely more on my senses and experience not letting the ease of navigating by electronics make me lazy. On overnight or limited visibility passages I have all the alarms on. It drives me a bit crazy but I still resist having it at the helm.
Maybe I'm just nutz.
