No, we had a filter equivilent to a Seagull.

It was a simple inexpensive Culligan housing with a .2 micron filter. Took out all the bad stuff to 99%. Guardia etc

We did wait for the first shower to rinse the boat but after that put rags in the scuppers and plastic inflatable raft pieces over the deck strainers.

Never got sick with that filter and took on water in some really iffy places. If you can find a .2 micron filter that fits you will be fine. They cost about $40.00 but can be cleaned. Just remember .2 (sub micron) and not 2 micron.
