Hey Tom,
Aside from running the engine, no other means of charging comes close to my towed water generator... If I've had favorable conditions enroute, my batteries will always be fully topped off at the conclusion of any passage...
Of course, a towed generator is risky to use inshore, no way you'd want to use one in a place like Maine, or the Chesapeake... A transom-mounted unit like those from Watt & Sea would be much less risky than mine, however... If someone figures a way to produce a similar unit for half the price of the current ones available, that could be a winner... But I'm still hearing those new units are fraught with problems due to having much of the guts of the units submerged, the big advantage to a towed generator like mine is keeping it above water on deck, and only the spinner is submerged...

There are probably few places better suited than the Bahamas for wind generators... There's really no place where you can really hide from the wind down there, I struggled a bit during my first winters down there relying only on a modest solar array, but since I've had the use of a wind machine, I've been good to go...
best regards,
Jon
