There used to be a "voice" that was human, certainly not selected by the same criteria as the talking heads on commercial radio stations. Bit of a drone.

Then they did the synthesized voice and it was totally hypnotic. You'd listen for 10 minutes for the ONE piece of info you needed and it got right by without registering! MISSED IT! WHAT DID IT SAY? Then we'd have to listen for another 10 minutes. It was so frustrating, we'd have a good laugh at our own inability to stay focused.

Since we've had broadband cellular internet the world is so much better! And the ability to track approaching T-storms with Doppler radar on your smart phone is SO much better than just knowing the percent probability.
