As Paul said the exams are a lot easier today - no Morse code requirements at all.
The Technician license is mostly rules, the General gets more technical, and the Extra gets very technical.
The tests are all multiple choice from a published question pool. The ARRL publishes study guides with a PC program to take sample tests. If you can pass the sample tests the actual one is the very same questions.
Seek out your local ham radio club - many offer classes to get you going.
