Tell me about the advantages of yankee cut jibs on a cutter rig.

I have a cutter rigged Pacific Seacraft Orion... I am considering different cuts of sail for the jib. Currently I have a rather typically cut 100% foresail. I am considering a yankee cut foresail for a couple of reasons... easier to tack and easier to see around.

Now I know that one thing I'll be giving up will be sail area. Will this change affect my pointing ability any... seems like the main and the hull shape have more effect in pointing.

So is the trade off worth it? Perhaps I should just fall back on the stays'l in areas where I expect to have tack quite a bit (such as in narrow channels).

What do you old salts think?
