I think a Yankee is a great cut sail. It sets high

above the green water, you can see under it and with the Staysail set, you get plenty of sail area forward. It allows you more versatility then a larger headsail. If you're setting a large headsail, say a 150, then you can't hold it with the Staysail set and why would you want to? If you roll up a 150 to shorten sail as the winds increase you end up with a lousy sail shape even with a foam luff. But if you're setting a high cut Yankee and Staysail you get plenty of drive but you can throttle back much easier while maintaining better sail shape with furling systems. Just MHO. Some sail makers and racers might shoot holes in this but that's my gut feeling on the matter especially if your sailing is done in any kind wind on a regular basis. Or, for that matter if you plan on sailing far afield where you probably will experience higher winds even once in a while.
