It is indeed the Orion...

I don't have the stays'l boomlet... was no doubt removed long ago. I have roller furling on both jib and stays'l. I have no problem using the stays'l just the way it is... and yes indeed I do furl the jib when it gets snotty... the boat sails well under main and stays'l. Actually handles well under stays'l alone.

I sail in San Diego and So Cal... so honestly the local winds tend to be pretty tame... quite often 8-12, occasionally higher. Never had the boat out in anything over about 16-20 yet. (reefed main and stays'l). Sea state around here is usually 2-4 foot swells. Of course can be higher. This certainly is not San Francisco though.

Traffic in my area is very light... although when I go down to the big bay, traffic can be quite heavy. Sailing in the big bay requires lots of tacking, and a good eye, and it can be quite lively down there due to the way the wind focuses and the fact that the shelter of the bay tends to flatten swells... it can be quite a blast.

The biggest reason I am thinking yankee cut is for visibility and to improve tacking... the jib sheets can and do get hung up on hardware from time to time, especially the stays'l furler. Nothing like having to quickly run forward to free the sheets while running out of seaway.
