yeah shortening sail quickly is a real nice advantage of cutters.

I have a furling jib and as soon as it starts to get a bit too much I just roll in the jib and go with the stays'l and ease the main... the boat handles beautifully with very little effort at all.

On the other hand, I love having all that sail area on a low wind reach... and gladly fly all the sails.
