I'm guessing single stream recycling is more an urban practice in places I've seen it used? But I fear it may increase costs(environmentally) as rural areas would need to ship to huge recyclers.
If that system could work country wide(with small recyclers all over), it would be a quick way to increase recycling. It could then be the law that 2 trash receptacles are required everywhere. Pretty regular event in other countries we visit.
On the other hand, some places like Nantucket require(last I read) clear refuse bags to enforce mandatory recycling. That's nice to know, many islands are carry in-carry out. Minimizing bringing future trash onboard is the best thing but not always easy to do.
We have trash dumpsters in our harbor but no recycle bins. Maybe I should do something about that?
