I cycle from one tank to another if we're sailing on a weekend -- then I fill the partially empty tank. I will flush the tanks if they sit more than two weeks in the summary and replace with "fresh" water. Our home marina has chlorinated municipal (not well) water.
We have a water softner at our residence. Frankly, I dislike the taste of that water vs. "normal" municipal water.
The enviornmental and economic consequences of plastic bottled water is really ridiculous. Certainly having something more than Deer Park or Poland Springs in gallon jugs seems crazy to me.
I can only imagine the Frenchman laughing that, " we will put water in plastic bottles and sell it to he dumb Americans for two to three times what gasoline costs; and, Then they will polute their land with the residue of the mis-spent tastes.."
I've always found the line: "Whiskey for my men and beer for my horses" is more attractive to me.
We have an RO Watermaker. The water out of it, after you let it flush a little from the pickling, is a lot cleaner than anything out of a tap. It tastes "different" without the minerals. Give me some well water or decent U.S. tap water any day.
