That's changing in some places and I'm seeing pay per bag-recycle for free stations. I love to see that, I know it costs money.
But I've learned over a few decades of coastal sailing, you should be prepared to hold trash long term. And that's the problem I'm talking about.
I'll even admit I may change my itinerary to get rid of trash. No different than I might to get diesel, water, pump out a holding tank, or even forgo sailing to motor instead, just to charge batteries.
So I like ideas to minimize waste and store it on the boat. There's been some good ideas posted like your sunbrella trash bag cover. For us, the big growth item are the recyclables that is packaging we bring aboard or pick up along the way.
